YOUR EXAMINATION TECHNIQUE
BRING with you 2 black pens, 2
pencils, ruler, rubber, and a calculator, in a transparent pencil
case or clear plastic bag.
you start writing, READ the instructions on the front carefully
THUMB through the entire paper having
a good look at the task ahead
with the questions you feel you can do best
If you cannot do a bit LEAVE IT, don't worry, move on,
there should be time to come back to it later
thoughts about other questions come into your mind immediately WRITE a
few words or a formula next to the question. These thoughts are a bit like dreams
(coming from the subconscious); if you wait they will probably be lost.
the mark allocation and the size of the space for your answer and
respond accordingly. In general, you score 1 mark for each correct point
made, so if there are 3 marks you need to state 3 things. Do not do more
than you have to. If there is only 1 mark, a single sentence (or one word) is
all that is required. REMEMBER, if you write something wrong which
contradicts a correct statement you will lose the original mark.
SURE you know what the question is asking for – you may need to read it
twice. Answer the question set and NOT your own question! – This is
the biggest source of lost marks.
- KEEP an eye on the clock, if you
have any time over at the end use it to HAVE ANOTHER GO at parts of
questions you left earlier.
CHECK that you have the correct units on any graphs you
have drawn, or
answers that you have calculated.
